If Pink Energy had it our way, every home in the U.S. would run on solar power. However, solar energy is not an option for all homes. If you’re reading this, you’re likely wondering if your Asheville home is suitable for solar panels. We’re here to answer your frequently asked questions and help you decide if solar panels are right for your needs.

Can I Install Solar Panels On A Home I Rent?

If you’re renting a home, we cannot work with you to install solar panels. You could find yourself in violation of your lease agreement, which is why we work with homeowners only. You can recommend Pink Energy to the property owner or landlord as a way to reduce their carbon footprint and enjoy potential tax benefits & savings – and we’d be happy to explore solar panels if and when you’re fortunate enough to purchase a house in the Asheville area!

What Direction Does My Roof Need To Face?

Solar panels perform best on south-facing roofs, with east- and west-facing roofs being your next best bets. They also work best on surfaces with a slope between 15 to 40 degrees. Homes with steep or small roof surfaces, or with the larger sections of your roof facing north, are typically not ideal fits for solar panels. If your roof does have large sections that face south, east or west, you will be on your way to getting the most production possible out of a solar array.

Large trees are also a consideration when determining the location of your solar panels. If trees cast shade on portions of your roof, especially for long periods of time, you’ll need to find a different location or explore tree removal or trimming so that the panels can receive additional sunlight.

Does The Condition Of My Roof Make An Impact?

Older roofs could struggle to support the weight added by solar panels. That’s why Pink Energy checks the condition of your roof and trusses to ensure they can be installed safely. If your home’s roof is nearing the end of its useful life, we recommend getting your home re-roofed to save yourself the expense later of removing and reinstalling the panels. Total roof replacement can be a major investment, just like solar panels, but it is likely well worth it to ensure the longevity of your solar energy system.
